Thrift Store Score - Homecrest Siesta Chaise

The other night I got a text from my mother that went something like: "Stopped by our Goodwill today, they had a wire chaise like your outdoor chair set." She was referring to our collection of Homecrest wire chairs in our back yard. After an anxious phone call later, she agreed to stop by the next day, and by that evening we had our long hunted Homecrest Siesta chaise and our next furniture restoration project. I knew just the spot in our solarium for it to reside.
I don't know how hard these are to find, but I've been looking for over 5 years for one to fill in our collection. Beyond looking killer, this chair is SUPER comfortable, I'm talking 'did I just fall asleep for a couple hours?' comfy. Like our other Homecrest chairs, this one swivels has an adjustable spring loaded mechanism, ours is seized with paint. Sandblasting, priming and powdercoating will be required before we endeavour in some custom made covers. Fabric is already on my mind, how sweet would this look in some Girard Millerstripe?

  1. What a find! Is it expensive to have it sandblasted and powder coated? Do you do it yourself?

  2. I will probably sandblast myself, getting all the wire powder coated will probably up the cost, but this piece is worthy of restoring.

  3. Oh my...how gorgeous! Can't wait to see it's progress and completion.

  4. I love mine. Doesn't even need cushions. Form destroys function when you're loungin' in style.

    Cheers,

  5. Can't wait to see how this turns out. I picked one up off the curb the other day and it's in about the same shape. Very interested to see how you do the fabric.

  6. Looks great! Do these need cushions? I see a set pop up on Craigslist every now and then, but never w/ cushions...

  7. I don't think it NEEDS cushions, but we want to make it super comfy, was thinking about seeing if Homecrest (who is still in business) might have some old pads laying around a warehouse, but going custom fabric cushions for all our vintage Homecrest stuff is on the agenda.

  8. I sold a homecrest chair a couple summers ago and the guy was able to get a couple of parts from them. Here is the catalog on this piece. You may have already seen it. :)

  10. Hi Chris,
I'm still swooning from picking up a whole suite of Homecrest at a yard sale that includes two of these chairs. Just curious, did you end up making your own chair pads, and if so was it easy to make your own pattern? Homecrest will still make pads for these chairs...but they are $$$$.

  11. MCModest, we have not gotten around to making pads for them all, would like to sandblast them all down and get them repainted first, got 7 chairs to do . . .
